On Friday, June 2nd, the York County Commissioners passed Resolution 2023-12 which established a 30 day temporary burn ban for all of York County, effective today June 5, 2023. The burn ban was implemented due to a long period of dry conditions which aids a dangerous wildfire threat.

The burn ban prohibits all open burning. The effectiveness of this ban, however, relies on a strong partnership with our local response agencies to enforce the ban. For this reason, during the ban, York County 911 Dispatchers will dispatch local law enforcement to the reported burn, as well as notify the first due fire company/department. After dispatch, the dispatcher will record how the local authority having jurisdiction would like to handle the call. The penalties for violating the burn ban in the first, second, and third offenses are listed in the attached burn ban resolution.

We understand this burn ban has the potential to disrupt typical summer activities, however the weather has not been conducive to open or large burns without the threat of large wildfires that can damage land and structural property, not to mention York County lives. I encourage you to reach out to me directly if you have any questions or concerns. We appreciate your attention to this burn ban.
